ABORIGINAL SUPPORT WORKER

School District No. 22 (Vernon) is now accepting applications for Aboriginal Support Workers.

Under the direction of the Director of Aboriginal Programs, or designate, assists the classroom / learning assistance teachers(s) by providing enhanced learning experiences to designated students of Aboriginal ancestry.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • EA Certificate or equivalent
  • Four months previous experience working with Aboriginal Youth
  • Life experience and knowledge of and sensitivity to values, beliefs and needs of the Aboriginal community from which the students come
  • Familiarity with current computer programs such as Boardmaker, Intellitools etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and successfully use new technology
  • Demonstrated ability to possess literacy, numeracy and English skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students and work in a team setting
  • Personal attributes required include demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, initiative, flexibility and good communications skills

EDUCATION ASSITANTS

 

School District No. 22 (Vernon) is now accepting applications for Casual Education Assistants.

As a member of the Student Support Services team you are an important contributor to the success of our students. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) months relevant training which includes recent Okanagan College Certified Education Assistant (or equivalent) certificate including practicum experience or training in dealing with resistant students and conflict resolution
  • Familiarity with current computer programs such as Boardmaker, Intellitools, Clicker, Kurzweil, etc…

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to learn and successfully use new technology and to possess literacy, numeracy and English skills.
  • Proven ability to develop rapport with students and work in a team setting.
  • Personal attributes required include strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated initiative, flexibility and good communication skills.
  • Fluency or background in signed communication (ASL) would be an asset

STUDENT SUPERVISORS


School District No. 22 (Vernon) is now accepting applications for Noon Hour  Supervisors (NHS) for the 2016/17 school year.

Under the supervision of the Principal, the NHS provides student supervision including monitoring student activities/behaviours to ensure students' safety and assists in minor first aid and the care of special needs students.

Current rate of pay is $19.78 with an additional 9% in lieu of benefits.

CASUAL CUSTODIAL

School District No. 22 (Vernon) is now accepting applications for Casual Custodial employees.

As a member of the Custodial team you are an important contributor to the success of our students.  Could lead to full time permanent employment with benefits.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Custodial Worker/Building Service Worker certificate and/or WHMIS training would be an asset

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • You will have knowledge of commercial building cleaning methods, chemicals and equipment
  • Must be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • This is a physical position requiring frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching and climbing
  • High energy, motivation and attention to detail will be key components of your success
