Saturday Apr 21 - PAC Empowerment & Training Conference
The Vernon School District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) has been working to support a strong public education system since its establishment in 1993.
Council membership is comprised of delegates elected by individual Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) of School District No. 22 (Vernon) schools.
DPAC meetings are held on the 3th Thursday of the month during the school year at the Vernon Secondary School Library, at 7:00 p.m..
The District education partner groups and district staff attend our monthly meetings to provide reports and receive reports from school district PACs. Information sharing and discussions involving the district staff, Board of Education (Trustees), Vernon Principals and Vice-Principals Association (VPVPA), Vernon Teachers Association (VTA), and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is an important component of the monthly meetings.
All parents/guardians of School District No. 22 students are welcome to attend the monthly meetings.
The District Parent Advisory Council act as advocates for parents and children in all the district schools. DPAC members participate on various school district committees such as School District Staff Selection, Safe Schools, District Calendar, Healthy Living, and the District Achievement Contract. We advise on district initiatives that impact parents and their children such as policies on Healthy Living, Corporate Sponsorship, School Planning Councils, and School Fees.
DPAC also helps parents in the school district become more familiar with the services of the District. We organize parent education forums on curricular and non-curricular topics such as literacy, numeracy, Assessment for Learning, internet safety, study skills, emotional intelligence, suicide awareness, and the BCCPAC Provincial Advocacy Project, just to name a few. DPAC leaders are available, on request, to assist individual PAC's with education and leadership information, and to provide links to valuable resources.
