The Literacy Society of the North Okanagan (formerly the Junction Literacy Centre)

provides student support through the following programs:

One to One Reading Program

The One to One reading program is a volunteer-based program operating in most District Schools. Volunteers read one on one with students in the early intermediate grades who can benefit from this support. Students gain confidence and competence and the volunteers enjoy reading with the children.

If you would like to know more, or are interested in becoming a volunteer, visit the Society's website at www.literacysociety.ca or call 250.275.3117

Skills Boost After School Tutoring Program

Students needing extra support may be referred to this no cost program by their classroom or resource teacher. Qualified teachers and tutors are paid to work with students one on one after school to enhance their learning outcomes. This program is funded through donations and grants. A coordinator will try to match the student with the most appropriate tutor, however, the program is dependant on tutor and funding availability. More information can be found on our website at www.literacysociety.ca

Skills Boost After School Tutoring Program (fee-based) New for 2017-18.

The Literacy Society will be expanding their fee-based program for parents or guardians seeking to hire a tutor for their child. A request form can be submitted to our office and we will strive to provide a tutor that is a good match for the student's needs. Tutoring usually happens at the student's school. We do not tutor in private homes.  Fees are $35 per hour. More details about this service can be found on our website at www.literacysociety.ca
