Block A steel works are ongoing with most of the works completed. The installation of the bracing, joists and decking for the structure, roof and floors on the south side of the block is ongoing. The roof parapets and assemblies have begun and the floors are poured on the north half of the 2nd and 3rd levels. The exterior stud framing has been installed within the steel structure on the north side of this block and will follow on the south elevation.

Block B has the roofing completed and the exterior wall assemblies, insulation, metal cladding and window installs are all moving forward. The mechanical ductwork, fire protection and plumbing is progressing in these areas and the electrical rough in is continuing.

Block C has the glulam beams and the roof decking installed which is now being prepared to have the roofing assemblies applied. The window liners, waterproofing and frames are being installed and the steel for the shop mezzanine is being completed. Mechanical and electrical installations are continuing in this area and progressing in conjunction with the rest of the building. 

Block A is moving forward with the north half of the steel structure erected and the remaining steel is ready to go ahead. The exterior walls will be constructed to enclose this area in once the steel connections and bracing have been completed and the concrete floors poured. The installation of the metal roof deck has began on this half with the roof assembly scheduled to be installed shortly afterwards.

Block B has the roof assembly completed and the exterior is being closed in with insulation sprayed on the exterior walls and the metal panel finish has started. The interior wall framing has began and the room layout is starting to take shape. The mechanical and electrical systems are progressing with ductwork, plumbing, power and lighting being roughed in within the wall and ceiling spaces.

Block C masonry wall assemblies and structural steel have been constructed and the Glulam beams on the west side over the shops are installed. The next phase is to have the beams installed over the corridor and over the east classrooms in order to allow the roof assembly for this block to begin.

Block A has the concrete floors for the basement and main level constructed. The next phase is for the erectors to begin installing the structural steel framing for this 3 level section of the building which includes the office area, library, computer labs, classrooms, and the science area on the 3rd floor.

Block B has the roof decking installed and the first layers of the roof installation has began over the gym. Structural steel is continuing to be installed over the commons area for the remaining roof and wall assemblies. The exterior walls are being closed in and the insulation is applied to a portion of the gym. The exterior will have brick veneer on the lower sections of the building and have corrugated metal siding generally on the upper sections. Full height glass will be installed on the exterior front face of the commons area.

Block C has the masonry block work completed for the shops wing and is ongoing for the Arts section. This is moving well and the completion of the blocks is near. Roof joists and decking will follow the completion of the exterior walls and the spray insulation for the exterior walls will proceed.

The electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection works are ongoing in the lower level with rough in continuing as the construction progresses.

Block A – The office and classroom block has the concrete walls and floor poured in the basement mechanical space. The exterior footings and walls for this block is also poured and completed. The underground utilities and backfilling is  ongoing as the crews are preparing to set the slab on grade (floor) and the suspended slab over the basement. Structural steel installations will follow the concrete works.
Block B – The gymnasium area is ahead of the other areas of the project. The structural block masonry around the gym is 90% complete and the steel structure for the gym is being prepared for the roof decking to be installed. The weight room already has the joists and roof deck installed. The columns for the commons area are erected and the next step is to tie in the roof structure and place the decking in order to have the roofing contractor begin near the end of August.
Block C – The shops wing has the masonry walls being constructed and the doors being installed. The footings for the Arts side of block C is being poured this week and the walls and floor slab to follow in the next two weeks. The drama theatre tiered seating is formed up and will be poured before the end of the month.
Mechanical and electrical rough in is ongoing throughout all areas to keep up with the underground, concrete and masonry works for the project.
Upcoming milestones for the project are the structural steel completion in block B and the completion of concrete works in blocks A and C.

The project has been moving forward smoothly and the structure is starting to take shape. The contractor has relocated one crane on site to assist in Block A, where the basement footings are installed and the foundation walls are being constructed. The main level suspended slab that ties all three blocks together is being constructed and is scheduled to be poured this week. The basement and 3 stories of block A will continue through the summer months until the roof structure is installed and prepared for the roofing trade.
Block B has the basement floor and the suspended concrete slab for the gym poured. The structural steel and block work for the gym area is now ongoing. Once the block walls and steel columns are installed, the joists and roof deck will proceed.
Block C has the basement floor and the main level shop floors poured. Masonry blocks have started around the perimeter and corridor of the shop areas.
Mechanical and electrical layout and rough in works are ongoing as the structure continues to move upwards.

The contractor has completed the footings, walls and columns in blocks B and C. The basement floor slab was placed in block B as the underground plumbing installation is completed in that area. The crews are working on finishing the underground works for block C and are working towards pouring the floor slab this month. The contractor is increasing manpower on site and forming up the deck for the gymnasium floor and working on the transition to the footings for the elevator shaft and the block A wing. Mechanical, electrical and civil works are ongoing and keeping up with the concrete works.

Update: March 21, 2011

The concrete works have continued through the end of February and start of March 2011. A second crane was erected on the worksite in early March to assist with the construction. The basement walls and columns for Block B have been completed and the underground plumbing and electrical is progressing in that area. The contractor is working towards pouring the slab on grade for the Block B basement floor first week of April.

More vertical walls and columns are being constructed in the Block C basement area which will include mechanical & electrical rooms, storage space and the silk room. The underground plumbing and electrical works are planned to move into this area next.

The contractor moved ahead strategically with the concrete and formworks through the month of January 2011. A crane was erected on site late 2010 to assist in the construction. The site conditions were a challenge with the winter weather but the crews were able to finish off the pads and footings in block B and begin to move the project vertical by constructing walls and columns that will be supporting the gymnasium. The contractor has maintained quality control and schedule for our project to date.

The start of February 2011 saw more progress on the vertical columns and walls for the basement area below the gym and the crews are starting to gain momentum into the spring.

December construction included excavation and installation of a portion of the sanitary and storm services for the building. Formwork and pouring of concrete footings and pads under the gymnasium area (Block B) and the shops area (Block C) are ongoing. Contractor is progressing safely and is on schedule. More pictures...
