Restorative Justice

School District No. 22 in partnership with the RCMP and Boys & Girls Club are involved in the North Okanagan Restorative Justice Program. A coordinator has recently been hired and training has taken place. We anticipate facilitators will be available in early January to lead conferences.
What is Restorative Justice?
It is a way of thinking about conflict and justice that focuses on respect for people involved in relationships. It is an approach used to repair and strengthen relationships among people involved in conflicts.

How Will It Be Used?
  • schools will be able to refer youth to the formal conferencing model as an alternative to suspension for code of conduct breaches
  • informally as a proactive approach to resolving daily conflicts and setting a positive climate

Teachers from West Vernon attended workshop
Teachers and administrators from a number of schools participated in 1 day workshops on Nov 17, 2004 to explore ideas on how to implement restorative justice principles in their schools.
