Admission

Students should apply four months prior to their intended entry date. Students must provide and official record of marks from their current school, comply with the requirements of Canada Immigration and submit a full completed application. Preference will be given to applicants who possess good academic standing and demonstrate a satisfactory level of English proficiency.

How to Apply

Application Process: To start the application process, ensure that you read through all the following requirements.
  Please complete the ONLINE application and submit electronically. When you begin the ONLINE process, you will establish a login/password in order to save your application as you proceed.
This ONLINE process has 4 steps. Please press save and continue while going through each of the 4 steps. At any time, you can save your application and return to complete or update
ON-LINE Application Process To submit your ONLINE APPLICATION, ensure that the fourth and final page has been completed, along with your non-refundable $150 fee.
OFF-LINE Application Process If you are not able to process the ONLINE application please proceed to our applications available in a PDF Format. Submit your application with a $150 non-refundable fee.

Letter of Offer:

Once a decision has been made with respect to your application, we will send either a Letter of Offer or Refusal, as appropriate, to the contact person named in the Application form (student, parent, agent or other). The Letter of Offer will confirm the fees you will be required to pay (tuition, homestay and medical) and the program and school you will be accepted into.

Participation Agreement:

Please read the Participation Agreement . By signing the Participation Agreement,the student indicates his or her willingness to abide by the rules of the school, the International Education Program and the homestay family. Failure to abide by these rules may result in the student being sent home at the parent/guardian’s expense, with no refund of tuition fees. The parents/guardians, reading the participation agreement indicate their support of the rules and also give permission for their student to participate in field trips and other school activities. The Participation Agreement must be signed by the student upon arrival.

Payment of Fees:

The Letter of Offer will identify the amount of fees that are to be paid in advance. Generally speaking, the fees to be paid in advance include:
    • Full tuition fees for up to one year of study
    • Homestay Monitoring Fee
    • Homestay Fee 10 months, can be paid monthy if we have an authorized Visa/Mastercard. No posted cheques accepted.
    • Medical coverage fees which vary depending on the length of student’s stay in Canada

These fees may be paid by Mastercard/Visa credit card, certified cheque or money order made payable to School District No. 22 (Vernon) or directly by bank transfer (bank details available upon request). All fees are payable in Canadian dollars.

Letter of Acceptance: Once the application fee has been and the online application has been completed we will send an official Letter of Acceptance which is required in order to apply for a Canadian Study Permit.

Custodianship Declaration:

All international students aged 18 years or younger intending to study in Canada without an accompanying parent, must identify a custodian in Canada who is authorized to act on behalf of the parents (see Minor Children Studying in Canada). The Vernon School District is available to serve as custodians for its International students. If this service is requested, we will send, together with the Letter of Acceptance, a notarized Custodianship Declaration – (Custodian) form to officially accept that responsibility. We will also include a blank Custodianship Declaration – (Parent/Guardian) form that the parents or legal guardian will need to complete and have notarized, to officially grant custodianship to the School District.

Study Permit Application:

Once you have received the Letter of Acceptance and Custodian Declaration forms, you or your representative may apply to the nearest Canadian Embassy for a Canadian Study Permit (one of three types of “visas”) that will authorize the student to enter Canada to study.

Refund Policy

Refusal of Visa

In the event the student’s visa or travel documents are denied, the student will receive a full refund of fees paid, minus the $150 application fee and an additional $100 administration fee (total deduction from the refund $250). Proof of denial of visa will be required in order to initiate refund.

Cancellation by Student Prior to Program Start

i)          Fees are paid for the duration of the program and therefore are non-refundable. SD22 resources are allocated on the basis of enrolment and therefore it is not possible to refund fees for any reason.

ii)         No refund of fees will be granted once the Visa and Study Permit have been granted.

iii)         No refund will be granted if the student withdraws from the program after the program has started. Program is considered to have started as of the first official day of school – not the date the student arrives.

iv)        No refund will be granted if the student is found to be in violation of the rules and regulations of the program and SD #22 and is, as a result of this violation, removed from the program. Students will be sent home at the student’s expense by the first available transport.

v)         No refund will be granted if it is found that the student obtained admission to the SD22 International Student Program under false pretenses or with forged documents.

vi)        No refund will be granted if the student’s immigration status changes after 30 days of beginning the program in September. No refund will be granted if the student’s immigration status changes at any time following the beginning of the program at any other time of year (November, February, or April).

vi)       School District No. 22 (Vernon) is not liable for losses/expenses that may incur as a result of the district being unable to provide education owing to labour disputes, inclement weather or other causes beyond its control.

Refunds on Homestay Fees

Please note that refunds will be granted only on the unused portion of the homestay fees paid. Unused portions will be calculated on a pro-rated basis of the days and nights the student did not stay with the homestay family.
