School Planning Councils 2011-2012

The provincial government believes parents should have a say in their children's education because parents have valuable insights and opinions. To make sure this happens, the School Act has been amended to allow every school in B.C. to form a school planning council.  School Planning Council Guidelines. School planning councils are advisory bodies made up of:
*  three parents
*  one teacher
*  the school principal

Family of Schools Goals for 2011-2012


Charles Bloom Secondary Goal : To cultivate ownership of learning leading to student success and achievement.
Clarence Fulton Secondary Goal 1: To improve literacy skills with a specific focus on reading for main idea in grades 8 & 9
Goal 2: To improve numeracy skills in all students with a focus on fractions
Goal 3: To encourage students in grades 9 & 10 who are performing poorly in academic subjects to take ownership of their own learning.
Kalamalka Secondary Goal: Our goal is to develop well-rounded students who are prepared for post-Kal learning opportunities
Vernon Secondary Goal 1: Students will improve their motivation in their studies, thereby increasing their achievement.
Goal 2: Social responsibility will be taught and promoted thereby increasing pre social behaviour in students.
W.L. Seaton Secondary Goal 1: Continue to improve success rates for Grade Eight and Nines.
Goal 2: Improve aboriginal students' success.

Beairsto Elementary To increase the quality and quantity of oral language in French school wide in the hopes that our students will be intrinsically motivated to become functionally bilingual.
BX Elementary Goal 1: To improve student reading comprehension and writing.
Goal 2: To improve the students' knowledge, skills, and attitude in mathematical literacy.
Goal 3: To improve social responsibility.
Cherryville Elementary Goal 1: To improve writing skills at both the primary and intermediate level, with a specific focus on form and style. Based on the school wide write data, our goal is to increase the percentage of students at the fully meeting level.
Goal 2: To improve student performance in mathematical thinking (demonstrating and expressing their understanding of mathematical concepts/operations).
Coldstream Elementary Goal 1: To improve student academic achievement in 'Narrative Writing'.

Harwood Elementary Goal 1: Improve student success in the mathematical stand of number
Goal 2:Improve student achievement in reading
Hillview Elementary Goal 1: To improve students' skills, knowledge and understanding in Math by analyzing and using the data collected at each grade level to determine the areas of focus in each grade.
Goal 2: To increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding expectations in oral language focusing on one of the following, depending on the grade level: strategies, exchanging ideas/information, listening or reflections.
J. W. Inglis Elementary Goal 1: To increase in the number of intermediate students meeting or exceeding expectations in writing style by 5% by June 2012.
Goal 2: To increase the number of primary (grade 2 & 3) students meeting expectation in place value in math by 5% using guided math strategies by June 2012.
Kidston Elementary

Goal 1: We will ensure each child is actively engaged in their learning in an environment that facilitates belonging.

Goal 2: Literacy Goal: We will increase the number of students who are meeting or exceeding grade level expectations in the sentence fluency strand in writing.
Goal 3: Numeracy Goal: We will increase the number of students who are meeting or exceeding expectations in mental math skills.

Okanagan Landing Elementary Goal 1: To awaken the virtues which already exist within each child

Goal 2: To improve in all aspects of writing, including a personal impromptu writing focus. Primary staff, will develop a self assessment tool for personal impromptu writing.

Silver Star Elementary Goal 1: To continue to improve student achievement in numeracy specifically in the strand of number concepts.
Goal 2: To improve student achievement in reading comprehension and fluency by focusing on the main idea and extracting information.
Goal 3: to improve student social responsibility by using our school wide positive behaviour matrix.
