Qualifications for Office – Candidates – Who can run?
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a School Trustee if they meet the following criteria:
Who Can Run
To be eligible, you must:
Be a Canadian citizen
Be 18 years or older on general voting day
Have lived in BC for at least six months before nomination day
Not be disqualified under the School Act or other legislation
Additional things you should know
Candidates who are employees of the Board of Education must take a leave of absence before consenting to be nominated to run for election, and must resign if elected.
There is no requirement to live within the school district or electoral area. Candidates may only run in one electoral area.
Nomination Process
Candidates must be nominated by at least two eligible electors from the electoral area where the person is seeking election. Candidates must submit a completed nomination package during the nomination period.
