J.W. Inglis - Bright Minds, Big Connections

Over the past month, students at JWI Inglis Elementary have been engaged in a wide range of enriching learning experiences that support leadership development, creativity, and connection. These opportunities encourage students to explore new interests and take pride in their learning. Many students are participating in the school’s Lumby Book Stars clubs, where they work in teams to read books and prepare for a final celebration and friendly competition that showcases their reading skills. The school chess club is also well underway, with students regularly gathering to practice strategy, problem‑solving, and perseverance. These clubs provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect with peers while trying something new.

In Fine Arts, students have been developing hands‑on skills through sewing and stitching lessons with Mrs. Redden. Students have embraced the challenge of learning new techniques, and their pride in their completed projects has been inspiring. As part of this learning, Grade 6 students created handmade “stuffies” for kindergarten students, using drawings created by the younger learners as inspiration—an experience that strengthened creativity, empathy, and cross‑grade connections.

Grade 6 students also had the opportunity to visit Charles Bloom Secondary School, where they spent the morning participating in activities in Art and Science classrooms. This experience was made possible through the collaborative planning of teachers at both JWI Inglis and CBSS, as well as the support of secondary students who helped guide and encourage the visiting learners. The day concluded with an afternoon music performance in the gym alongside students from other CBSS Family Schools, creating a memorable experience of shared learning and community.

Leadership and responsibility continue beyond the classroom at JWI Inglis. Students take pride in helping around the school, including working together to clear gravel from outdoor areas as they eagerly look ahead to the arrival of spring.

Together, these experiences reflect a vibrant school community where learning, leadership, creativity, and kindness are nurtured every day.
