Principal and Vice-Principal Learning: Building Strong Foundations Together

In August, district and school leaders came together for a two-day Summer Leadership Gathering focused on connection, shared learning, and the leadership practices that help create strong conditions for student success. The gathering provided important time for leaders to build relationships, deepen shared understanding, and begin the year with a clear sense of direction. We were fortunate to have Gwen Louis-Torres, OKIB member, spend some time with us on our first day together to discuss the impacts of the Bradley Creek Wildfire on students, families and the entire OKIB community.

This year, SD22 is welcoming more than a dozen new leaders into school and district leadership roles. Some are joining the district, while many are SD22 staff stepping into new leadership responsibilities. Their willingness to serve in these roles strengthens the district’s leadership team and reflects a shared commitment to supporting our school communities.

To support leaders new to role, the district also hosted a full-day foundational leadership session designed to provide a strong beginning in what it means to lead in SD22. The district team will continue to focus on networking, enhancing collaboration, and strengthening the leadership team throughout the year so new leaders feel connected, supported, and well prepared in their work.

I am grateful to all those who have joined SD22 or taken on new roles this fall to support students. Their leadership, care, and commitment will help build strong school communities and contribute to the continued success of learners across the district.
