School Board Elections
General local elections in B.C. are held every four years. The next general local election will be held on October 17, 2026.
General local elections include elections for mayors and municipal councils, regional district directors, and school board trustees.
A total of seven Trustees are elected from three electoral areas for a term of four years:
- Trustee Electoral Area 1 – City of Vernon and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas B and C – Four Trustees
- Trustee Electoral Area 2 – District of Coldstream – One Trustee
- Trustee Electoral Area 3 – Village of Lumby and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas D and E – Two Trustees
Considering running for School Trustee?
You are qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a School Trustee if you meet the following criteria:
- Canadian Citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026);
- Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months (March 10, 2026) immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
- Not disqualified under the School Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding office as a trustee, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
If you would like to stand for election for the Office of School Trustee, you must submit a completed nomination package between 9:00 a.m. September 1, 2026, to 4:00 p.m. September 11, 2026, as follows:
- In person during regular business hours or by mail at School District No.22 (Vernon), 1401 15 Street, Vernon, BC V1T 8S8; or
- by email in pdf to Chief Election Officer Adrian Johnson, ajohnson@sd22.bc.ca

The nomination form requires you to make a declaration in the presence of the Chief Election Officer or a Commissioner for taking affidavits for British Columbia. Please contact Heide Roseberry, hroseberry@sd22.bc.ca, if you wish to make an appointment to meet with the Chief Election Officer to make the declaration.
Campaign Period Expense Limits
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:
- Trustee Electoral Area 1 – City of Vernon and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas “B” and “C” $25,115.86
- Trustee Electoral Area 2 – District of Coldstream $7,495.94
- Trustee Electoral Area 3 – Village of Lumby and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas “D” and “E” $6,161.89
Third Party Advertising Limits
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following third party advertising limits apply:
- Trustee Electoral Area 1 – City of Vernon and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas “B” and “C” $1,547.61
- Trustee Electoral Area 2 – District of Coldstream $924.28
- Trustee Electoral Area 3 – Village of Lumby and Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas “D” and “E” $924.28
